Bungalow Quilting

Bungalow Quilting - The Uptown in Any Town

Ethan Shirt

May 14, 2016 by Judy

Wow! Long time since I’ve blogged anything. It’s been a wild ride with getting ready to go to market, and all the other wonderful springtime things. So, we are really trying to branch a little further into the garment sewing world. There are after all, other things to do besides just sewing quilts! There are so many things to sew.

I just recently started getting patterns from a company where you take the card home from my shop. It has all the yardage information on it, and the photo of the garment. Then, you download the pattern at home. It is wonderful because once you download the pattern, it’s yours and you can get all the sizes included without having to cut into the pattern and destroying the other sizes. I made this little shirt for my grandson, who won’t wear it until he’s about 3, but that’s okay. I need to hang it for a sample for awhile in the shop.

I used the Moda fabric “Flow”. It is just the greatest fabric for a shirt for a man or woman. This particular one from the line is called “Floating”. It looks like a waterdepth chart.

I am about to start the buttonholes. It’s a scary proposition even for the most experienced sewist. The reason for this is that it can all depend on whether or not your sewing machine wants to cooperate. Even a good Bernina has it’s days.

Speaking of a good Bernina, I took one of my girls to M&R Sewing in Madison yesterday. It was doing this thing where it would turn on and then instantly go out. It kept doing this over and over and so I put it in the back of my car and brought it to them. As soon as he turned it on it behaved beautifully. Ugh!!! Just like when you take your kids to the doctor after they have been sick all week and then they get miraculously better in the doctor’s office. But, I’m glad that it worked anyway.

So, I am about to embark on the buttonholes. I have been sewing since the Nixon administration. Well, yes, I was just a baby. So, here goes. I am going to do this buttonhole thing.
