I don’t know about you, but most of the time when I need to have a wedding gift I tend to make them. The bride and groom will most likely get things that are on the registry from folks that aren’t into making things. So, I think that they’re covered. What I like to give as gifts are things that are fun.
There are a lot of basic necessities that come with a first apartment or home. Or, if they’re combining households they may not need the corkscrew or the wooden cutting board or the towels for that matter. Although, even I could use new towels.
My favorite thing to do is use up scraps. Other people may not want my scraps but if I can make something relatable to almost everyone, then why not?
I had these leftover pieces of Ruby Star Society fabrics so I cut them into squares. I love to make table runners for weddings because they’re not such a huge undertaking, and most people will like a table runner.

If you make a quilt, you run the risk of someone not liking it, and it is a huge project.
If you make a table runner, you can accompany the gift with cute bowls or cups, and it’s perfect for a quick pick me up for any table.
So, I decided to use them. They’re too scrappy to be put together like the above photo. If you want to use that many scraps in one place you need to have eye rest. So, add some fabrics that you may need to either dig into your stash for, or buy more. That makes it cohesive. You also can add a background or solid to give eye rest. This is the final lay out, and this is how it’s done.

The squares are cut into 5 1/2” squares, my favorite size.

They are laid on point. The first top row is sewn together in the order shown above. You continue to lay them out this way and sew then together in the order shown. Then, sew the rows together.
Place your batting and backing underneath the entire thing and quilt as a stitch in the ditch or free motion.
Once you are done quilting it, you will trime the white squares beyond the 1/4 inch seam allowance at the edges.
Always quilt it first and then trim because that will stabilize the bias edge that you create when you trim the edges.

How is that for the easiest thing you’ve ever done, and it’s super cute. Now bind it and give it with love.
