Bungalow Quilting - The Uptown in Any Town

Rabbit Headband

November 13, 2023 by Judy

I love the new Luxe Rabbit in Black from Shannon Fabrics. Yes, the in shop price is $39.99 per yard, (slightly more online to account for shipping and packaging) but this headband that I made used only 1/4 yard, and you can get 2 of them from 1/4 yard. Your cost per headband is $5. Yup. And, it feels like the real thing. If feels like real fur, and looks like something that you would buy in Vail Colorado on a ski hill.

Let me tell you all about it.

You purchase your Luxe Arctic Rabbit in black right here. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1335251066/luxe-cuddle-arctic-rabbit-in-black-by?click_key=ecc8b4ab81f39303685aea21703f3666825808b1%3A1335251066&click_sum=43f98b8f&ga_search_query=arctic%2Brabbit&ref=shop_items_search_1

You only need 1/4 yard. Measure your head circumference where you want the headband to sit. It’s going to be most likely the largest distance around your head…your forehead over your ears and to around the back. Once you’ve made the measurement of where you think the headband should sit, then remember that number. Mine was 21”. You’re going to add 3 inches to that measurement.

Cut a piece of the Luxe Arctic Rabbit that you purchased. It should be 1/4 yard (9 inches) by your measurement plus 3 inches. So mine was 9” x 24”.

Fold it right sides together along the long axis.

Make certain that you have your walking foot on! Bring your stitch length up. You should have a long stitch. On my Bernina I turned it up to 4.

Stitch across the short ends and pivot at the corners. Then stitch the long ends and leave an opening in the center.

Now turn it right sides out and stitch the opening closed.

You will need to cut a 3” long piece of Velcro. Stitch the velcro on to the ends, making certain to stitch one side (hook) to the edge of the headband, and the loop side to the opposite side of the headband.

You can add more than one strip of velcro so that the sizing is somewhat adjustable. But, if your measurements are correct, you should be able to get a great fit.

Now you’ll look like there’s a genuine fur around our head and it will be just as warm.
