Bungalow Quilting

Bungalow Quilting - The Uptown in Any Town

The Backyard Caddy

November 3, 2019 by Judy

I am really out of my wheel house. I rarely make anything other than garments or quilts. Often times I make tablerunners and napkins, or table accessories. But, I rarely if ever make things that require partitions, heavy duty stabilizers etc. Oh I have made my share of bags to be sure. I sew a lot of things with alternative types of fabric such as Cuddle. I’ve written an entire

Simple Sassy Skirt

October 28, 2019 by Judy

This is one of the easiest skirts I have ever made. It was such fun too. I don’t like to stock things in the shop that are limited to people that are of only one size, if you get my drift. I like to make everyone feel pretty, no matter their size. So I try to seek out patterns that are workable for many people. And why not? We try

Casserole Caddy – Cutting it out

October 27, 2019 by Judy

All the pieces of the caddy were put into place, so now I had to cut out the shape of it, just by following the lines on the printed cotton batting. FIRST, though, you will want to pin the edges down so you can cut out the curves without the fabric moving. Next, flip the caddy over; the back should be facing up. Cut out the shape of the caddy

Casserole Caddy – new way of quilting a craft

October 21, 2019 by Judy

Sewing right onto the cotton batting This is a new project for me. Judy asked for a casserole caddy for her “Blitzen” event on November 7. (A casserole caddy is a quilted “envelope” of sorts for carrying a hot casserole to an event). I volunteered. She handed me an all-in-one package that included instructions and a large piece of cotton batting. It is called a “Quilt as You Go” pattern;

Union Jack Quilt

October 6, 2019 by Judy

I’ve always wanted to make a Union Jack quilt. Don’t ask me why. I am not an Anglophile, but there is something so pleasing to the eye about that design. So, get your British on, and read all about how to make this quilt. This is a free pattern so enjoy! Materials: Quilt measures 88” x 97” Finished Block size 11” x 12” All seam allowances are 1/4” unless otherwise

Island Vacation Skirt – Tip #2: Finessing to get a professional look

September 26, 2019 by Judy

I found tips even inside the “learn to sew” pattern used for this. I put them into practice. All the tips are listed below, then the photos for each one follow. 2. QUICK PRESS VS. USING AN IRON: When you want to quickly “press” part of a seam, or a dart, or a narrow hem, use your thumbnail vs. an iron. This works best on cotton fabrics. I tried it

Island Vacation Skirt – tip #1: Matching scenery or stripes

September 22, 2019 by Judy

Matching notches to allow stripes to match

The Island Vacation skirt has scenery on it … it has a yellow sunset on the horizon, a line of purple mountains, and then the ground, before it explodes into poppies. The skirt has 3 separate pieces in order for it to wrap around, and you’ll want an unbroken line of horizon to go around the waist and hips. So, you’ll want to lay out the 3 pattern pieces to

Island Vacation Skirt – Easy!

September 19, 2019 by Judy

I made this skirt for a couple of reasons. First, I loved the fabric and wanted to use it as a long skirt because the panel/border is so long. I haven’t worn an everyday long skirt since they were called maxi-dresses. Isn’t the fabric absolutely stunning? It’s at the Bungalow, in store and online here, along with several other designs with panels that can be long or short. Note the

Brocade Dress – FINISHED!

September 11, 2019 by Judy

My dress for my daughter’s wedding is finished! See the photo. It shimmers in the daylight. What beautiful fabric to work with. Though it ravels on the raw edges a lot, you can alleviate the stress of that by using a zig-zag or overlock stitch on the edges. Regarding the gathering I wrote about: Lots of gathering in this pattern to make the skirt very flaired and “twirly”. If I

It’s about Feeling Pretty!

September 10, 2019 by Judy

My daughter said something really smart to me once. She said that she liked to wear bracelets because it’s a piece of jewelry that she could see all day. If she was wearing earrings or a necklace, it was for everyone else to see. I feel that way about accessorizing. Especially with handmade projects. Putting luxury and beautiful fabrics on your body makes you feel good. When you look pretty
