So a couple of months back I got this wild hair to make butterfly chairs. Why, you ask? Why does a man climb a mountain or a quilter make a quilt? Because they can! I love to use fabric for so many more things than just making quilts. I love fabric so I want to be doing something with it all the time, every day! I especially love the Shannon
I have finally made window shades for my bedroom. I found the perfect fabric. I knew that if I didn’t make them soon the fabric would be sold. So, I grabbed the Robert Kaufman fabric and went to town. Putting up the brackets is the part that takes me the longest to do. It’s incredibly easy, but I have to scout around and find the ladder, the drill, the drill
I have entered posts about sewing with ruffle fabric in the past, but there were a few specifics with this dress that I wanted to point out. First of all, people shouldn’t be afraid to sew with Ruffle Fabric. It looks scary initially but what you have to remember the whole time that you’re doing it is that it’s polyester. For some reason, polyester got a bad rap. We used
Yes, you heard correctly. We are having a challenge. Together with C&T Publishing we will be choosing 14 quilts that will go to the International Quilt Festival in Chicago. These quilts will be made by you using block patterns from one or both of my books “Quilts for Scrap Lovers” and “Rainbow Quilts for Scrap Lovers”. Here’s a photo of a quilt that I made as an example. You can follow
When I decided to do a pajama clinic, I really thought that I would have adults signing up. Well, I did. But I also had the grandmother of a 12 year old call me. Emma wasn’t new to me. Last summer I taught her how to do a skirt and a couple other small projects for 4-H. So, when Pat called me, I thought “sure, why not.” The thing about
Well with patterns as easy as this, there’s no reason for not sewing them up. I love to sew garments. I hear so many people say that they don’t bother because it’s cheaper to buy the clothing. Is it really? And is that the point? It’s cheaper to buy canned foods and pre-prepared foods but do you eat that way for that reason or do you buy fresh wonderful ingredients
Here’s an idea for your next breakfast party. What, you don’t have breakfast parties? Well, time to start! Have a brunch sometime and invite friends over. Cook an egg dish. This will be tons of fun! I got the idea for these placemats from a book my Granddaughter has. I was reading it to her and it was all about colors and shapes. What a great idea for modern placemats.
My husband and I recently went to a book signing. There is this tiny little bookstore in Neenah Wisconsin. When we arrived, there were chairs set up. There were crackers and cheese in the corner with some wine. I of course, refrained from the wine. (I would wait until later and have a beer). There were two chairs at the front of the room. A table was set up
This past week I had the distinct pleasure of working with Nancy Zieman. While I have always been a fan of Nancy’s I never realized the extent to which her grace and knowledge have influenced the sewing world. In case you’re reading this and you don’t know who she is, Nancy has been appearing on PBS for many decades. She has a show about sewing and all things sewing related.
So what’s really in the spirit of scrap quilting? It comes from so many things. It comes from wanting to use things up. It is the original version of being “green”. It’s all about memories, and it’s all about walking through each piece of fabric and remembering where you bought it, what it’s original intent was and what you loved about it. This quilt captures so much of that. Here
