I have blogged before about quilting with alternative textures. I think it’s just fantastic. After all, our founding mothers of quilting did it all the time. It is in the real spirit of quilting. I had a quilting instructor early in my quilting years that said never to use anything but 100% cotton. I remember at that time thinking “What a strange thing to say”. I remember thinking that she
My Quilting BFF and her Project
Okay, I told Cathy that I wasn’t going to post this until after the wedding. But, the Bride and Groom are not customers of mine. I don’t think that they would be interested in reading my blog. You see, they aren’t even from this area anymore, and they wouldn’t even think to look at this blog. What would make them think to take a gander over to my website? I
Just a Few More Umbrellas
I love posting these umbrella pictures. You can see from the looks on their faces, these ladies had a great time doing this. I am very pleased with how well all of these umbrellas have turned out. This weekend, I will be selling them again at the Racine Lighthouse guild’s quilt show. It’s always such fun to meet people at these shows. Of course, I sell them always on my
More Umbrellas
When I had the Milwaukee shop, I met these two ladies. They drove up to Ripon to take the Umbrella Class. Marie did the Packer umbrella and Wilma did the Black and White one. These umbrellas have been such a hit. I just sent 2 of them all the way to New Zealand! These ladies only had to come from Milwaukee. It makes the trip to Milwaukee seem like nothing
Amazing Hand Quilting
Connie Wahoske lives in Ripon. She is a really great quilter. She is also a member of our discount club. She got all the fabrics for this quilt as a member. It is the fabric from Moda’s “Little Black Dress” collection by Basic Grey. She pieced in all of the curves by machine, but what is really remarkable is the hand quilting. I don’t do hand quilting and so I
Amanda Shaffer’s Skirt
Amanda Shaffer is not from here. She was a Ripon College student and she was from Indiana. She popped in to the Bungalow because she loves fiber art. I saw her and instantly recognized that she had a sense of style. Since her first visit, she has made a few skirts using Bungalow fabrics. This skirt that she has on is from the Natural History Collection by Lizzy House for
Meet Leslie Ernst, A Modern Quilter
Here’s Leslie. Leslie has 2 children and is married to a busy entrepreneur. She’s also a full time school teacher. She’s amazing. And, the best part about her is that she is very kind and compassionate. She made this quilt for her sister. Her sister is having a baby boy. Her sister already has 2 children but they are girls. So, to welcome a new baby boy she is using
Using alternative textures
Okay. This has so been my soapbox for a while now. People are hesitant to sew with other textures, ones other than cotton. But remember cotton comes in many textures too. There are cotton knits, even cotton velveteens. I love to embark on the adventure of sewing with other fibers. Silk is my personal fav, but has some limitations, especially cost. But, you only need a little in certain applications.
Here’s Abby!
This is one of the first things that Abby has sewn. We are so excited for her. Her mom, Cindy Cody, works in the shop. She is my go to girl along with Kim Bates for making bags. Some of us actually enjoy making bags. I however, do not. So, because Cindy is so good at it and does it all the time, Abby is picking it up. She made
Mary Hertel’s Trunk Show
Mary Hertel was at the shop doing a trunk show. One of the things that I have noticed about this industry is that there are very few people that don’t have wonderful talents deep down inside of them. Mary has many of those. She is fun, beautiful and energetic. She loves to teach. She was an art teacher for 35 years. Wouldn’t you have loved to be in her class?
